MASTER DRAWINGS NEW YORK Taps
Veteran Art Dealer to Lead Organization
New York – Every January an international array of top art dealers and galleries alight in New York to showcase their most important and recently acquired Master drawings. The occasion is MASTER DRAWINGS NEW YORK, this year taking place from Saturday, January 21, to Saturday, January 28. The press preview day will be Friday, January 20.
The non-profit consortium of dealers recently appointed Allison Wucher, owner of Silverpoint Fine Art, to head strategic planning and management of the annual event. A Manhattan based private art dealer and consultant, Wucher earned her BFA in Painting and Art History from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MA in Northern Renaissance Art History from the Courtauld Institute of Art. She has assisted in the works on paper collections at the RISD Museum and Courtauld Gallery and was an associate in Swann Auction Galleries' Prints and Drawings Department. She also handles a variety of photographs and prints for private collections and estates, including the Josef Breitenbach Foundation and the Pennwick Foundation.
Wucher brings substantial knowledge of the field to Master Drawings New York. She has a strong personal interest in Northern Renaissance drawings and prints, particularly works by Jan van Eyck and Albrecht Durer, and in early 20th century experimental/surrealist photography.
The London based dealer Crispian Riley-Smith is the Director of Master Drawings New York, which was founded a decade ago by Margot Gordon, an Old Masters specialist located in the city. New York’s weeklong celebration has so matured that a sister event has been instituted in London in July. In both art capitals, top tier dealers present an array of works by both legendary and newly relevant artists for the museum officials and art patrons who flock to the auctions and fairs held concurrently.
More information on MASTER DRAWINGS NEW YORK 2017 will be forthcoming on this page.
